COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Red Cross in Columbus is in need of blood donations to fight an emergency blood shortage.

The shortage began last month and also means that hospitals have less than a two-day supply to help patients during an emergency.

The Red Cross says it really needs Type O blood. Those who donate between now and August 30 will receive an Amazon gift card.

The Red Cross will be at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wildwood Avenue Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to collect blood from those who would like to donate.
