Historic review board will hear arguments for potential housing project
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The back and forth between Atlanta developers TBG Residential and Hilton Avenue neighbors will continue Monday afternoon.
TBG representative will make their case to Columbus Consolidated Government's Board of Historic and Architectural review (BHAR), saying their 84-unit housing project along Hilton Avenue and Wynnton Road not only belongs there, but "will bring life and business to the community," according to a spokesperson's statement.
TBG already submitted its application for a "certification of appropriateness" to the board, but critics of the project, mainly the "Help Save Hilton" group will also have an opportunity to argue why the buildings would not fit in the neighborhood.
Over several weeks, neighbors and group leaders started a housing project could negatively impact the historical charm and value of Hilton Avenue, leading to a fundraiser collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars to preserve their neighborhood as is.
Both sides will present their arguments to the board at 3:30 p.m.
