BOGOTA, NJ (CNN/RNN) – A New Jersey couple's wedding day did not go as planned when the bride, groom and their wedding party got stranded in floodwaters and had to be rescued.

A police officer can be seen helping the unidentified bride, still wearing her wedding dress, to safety through the roof of a water-submerged car in a video posted to the Bogota Police Department's Facebook page.

The officer was identified as Officer Michael Laferrera by the North Jersey Record. He made sure the bride's dress and shoes stayed dry during the Saturday evening incident.

The groom and other members of the wedding party were also rescued.

"The fortunate thing, is we were able to help them through their first rough patch," police wrote.

In a separate Facebook post, police noted the area is flood-prone, and unusually heavy rain meant the water rose more than 4 feet in less than 15 minutes.

"We definitely get people stuck often, but it was her wedding day, so it was a dynamic situation. Nobody was worse for the wear, besides the vehicle," said Sgt. Geoffrey Cole, according to the Record.

The police department sent the couple on their way, congratulating them on their marriage and wishing them the best, even after the unfortunately rocky start.
