RiverCenter kicks off new season with free concert
Concertgoers may be part of the show that begins airing on GPB in October.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - RiverCenter will kick off its season with a free concert by the U.S. Navy Band, Country Current, on Saturday, September 1 at 3 p.m.

Country Current is the Navy's premier Country/ Bluegrass ensemble, nationally renowned for its versatility and "eye-popping" musicianship.

The group performs a variety of music, ranging in styles from contemporary Country to cutting-edge Bluegrass.

The seven-member ensemble employs musicians from diverse backgrounds with extensive, high profile recording and touring experience in the music scenes of Nashville, Tenn., New York, New Orleans, and more.

The brand utilizes many different instruments such as the banjo, drums, different types of guitars, and more.

RiverCenter Director Norman Easterbrook says, "This is the perfect way to celebrate Labor Day weekend."

Last season, RiverCenter hosted the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldier's Chorus, where Easterbrook was recognized with the Commander's Award for fourteen years of sponsoring performances by the ensembles of the U.S. Armed Forces. During the 2018-19 Season, RiverCenter will sponsor two other military band concerts: The U.S. Navy Band Commodores Jazz Ensemble in October and, in what has become a holiday tradition, Fort Benning's MCoE Band in December.

A film crew from Georgia Public Broadcasting will be on site to film the concert as part of their upcoming 'Hometown' series.

The concert is free, but attendees must have a ticket for admission.

For tickets, contact the RiverCenter box office Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or by phone at 706-256-3612. Limit of 4 tickets per customer.
