Troup County School Systems announces superintendent's resignation

TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Troup County School System (TCSS) announced the resignation of its superintendent effective immediately.

Dr. R. Cole Pugh's resignation was accepted by the school board at the beginning of the new school term. Dr. Roy Nichols, former TCSS superintendent will serve as interim.

Kirk Hancock, chairman of the board, mentioned that Pugh led the district through some of the toughest times this school system has seen. Hancock said Pugh laid a solid foundation and the district wants to build on that.

Dr. Nichols said, "I am here to work with employees and the Board. I believe it is important that the Interim Superintendent not be a candidate for the job. I look forward to guiding the TCSS while keeping the needs of our students, employees, families, and community as my highest priority."

Nichols served as superintendent from 1999 to 2004. He has 25 years of experience as a superintendent having held positions in Marietta, Mobile, and Norfolk.
