OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - East Alabama Medical Center and local law enforcement agencies teamed up for a drug take-back program in Opelika.
The goal of the program is to reduce drug overdoes and to keep unused medications out of the wrong hands.
Organizers wanted to make sure that parents disposed of their prescriptions right after they are no longer needed. They also warn against flushing the drugs down the toilet because of the effects those drugs could have on the environment.
The hospital will begin accepting unused and expired medications to dispose them.
