COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Doctor Daniel Gwan-Nulla with Piedmont Columbus Regional talked with News Leader 9 about the importance of lung cancer screenings.
He says that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
"It actually kills more people than breast, colon, and prostate combined, so that is why it important to screen for it," says Doctor Daniel.
If you can catch lung cancer early you can increase the survival for people with lung cancer. By catching it in early stages such as stage one.
Unlike breast cancer where you can feel a lump, lung cancer you can not feel anything.
By the time you start showing symptoms of lung cancer, the cancer is pretty advanced.
Doctor Daniel says that most people who get lung cancer are smokers, but many people who smoke do not have lung cancer.
Piedmont Columbus Regional has a robust screening program where they screen for lung cancer. The doctor recommends that more people should get screened for early stages of lung cancer.
