TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - The Troup County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man for impersonating an officer after a traffic stop for speeding.

Jay Diamond was initially pulled over after going 90 MPH in a 70 MPH zone of I-185 northbound near mile marker 46 on Aug. 23.

When an officer approached the vehicle, Diamond told them he was a federal air marshal and was holding a badge in his hands.

The officer asked Diamond for further credentials, but he did not have any.

Upon further investigation, the badge was found to be a collector's item and not authentic.

Diamond then admitted he was not a federal agent.

Diamond has been charged with speeding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and impersonating an officer.

There is no word yet on if he will face charges with the federal government.
