Hundreds of graduates gather for a ribbon cutting at Spencer High School

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today in celebration of the new W.H. Spencer High School in Columbus.

The school's gym was filled with hundreds of graduates from over the past decades.

Local and state representatives spoke about the proud history and bright future of Spencer.

Muscogee County School superintendent Dr. David Lewis says the dream of a new Spencer High School has been fulfilled.

Dr. Lewis says, "Through dedication commitment and hard work this fine educational facility was built. In turn, this school will be a vocal point of generations to come. We believe the beginning of the area for which the best days are ahead."

The new $55 million building is located at 1000 Fort Benning Rd. 

The new school is more than double the size of the previous school and accommodates more than 1000 students.
