Columbus forum held to address crime in the community
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - With violence on the uptick in Columbus, city leaders and people in the community are coming together to find a solution.
The goal of the forum was to open lines of communication between parents and law enforcement and help Columbus become a better place and live by everyone coming together.
CEO of SAVE Inc. Dr. Delta Outley says, "It's going to take all of us, not just the police, or our mayor. It's going to take everybody getting involved."
"If we can start educating our kids at an earlier time, not just on reading, writing and arithmetic, but also on their social responsibilities," Outley says.
Many at the forum say they're anxious to raise funds for initiatives like the Junior Marshal program in Muscogee County.
They also suggest parents get more involved in students' social lives to keep a closer eye on who's influencing their behavior.
