Smiths Station City Council votes to build new truck stop
SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - A vote was passed Tuesday at Smiths Station's city council meeting to build a new truck stop in the city.
Love's Travel Stop will be located at the intersection of Lee Road 248 and Highway 280/431. The stop will be the first large national brand to come to the city.
The location will be able to service 51 vehicles for parking. There will be showers for truck drivers, six diesel bays, four gas bays, and a Chester's Fried Chicken.
"It's going to be a Love's travel stop and this will be an excellent venture on the 280/ 431 highway that comes through the city. It's going to be a huge impact on our economic development as well as our city," said Smiths Station Mayor Bubba Copeland.
The city is set to close on the property Oct. 17 and the store should be completed in Nov. 2019.
