Donating 'soles' for a good cause, Keep Columbus Beautiful kicks off Shoe Recycling Campaign
Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission is asking for you to donate your gently worn shoes to help the community and a good cause.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission (KCBC) is asking for your help to kick off their Shoe Recycling Campaign.

The KCBC will be collecting gently worn shoes of all styles and sizes from kids to adults starting Sept. 5, 2018 at 10 a.m.

The kick off for their campaign will take place at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School located on 350 13th Ave., Columbus, Ga 31903.

According to the Commission, each year more than 350 million pairs of shoes are tossed into our landfills for a resting place and it takes several years for shoes to decompose.

This environmental stewardship project will divert shoes from our landfill and reuse them by sending them to developing countries like Haiti, Swaziland, Togo, and Honduras.

In efforts to keep these 'soles' from going to waste what better way than to donate them for a good cause.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 6, 2018 area citizens may drop off shoes at any of CCG Fire/EMS Stations, any day of the week.

The Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission also encourages schools across the Tri-Community to support the Shoe Recycling Project by encouraging every student to bring at least one pair of shoes to their school.
