(WTVM) - As we roll into Labor Day weekend many are gearing up for their last vacation of the summer to celebrate.
Alabama officials are expecting plenty of people on the roads this holiday weekend.
State officials want to make sure everyone gets where they need to be safely.
Authorities say drivers simply need to obey the law.
Don't drive distracted, obey the speed limit, and use your seatbelts.
"If we had 100 percent compliance on seatbelt usage, we would see our fatalities go way down. And the other big thing, not only on a holiday weekend, anytime in general, driving under the influence causes a lot of crashes. If you're going to partake in alcohol this weekend, designate a driver in advance," said Cpl. Jess Thornton.
In an effort to help keep roadways safe, the state department of transportation will have no temporary lane closures on Alabama interstates after noon on Friday, August 31 through midnight on Monday.
According to Trip Advisor, 23 percent of people plan to travel this weekend.
