SALEM, AL (WTVM) - The Salem, Alabama community gathered for an annual Labor Day tradition Monday.
The small rural neighborhood in Lee County has been hosting the event for decades.
"We're celebrating our 32nd annual Labor Day Picnic," said longtime Salem resident, Wilbur Baldwin. " Free of charge. We have all kinds of events and a memorial service."
"It's something I look forward to every year," said former Salem resident, Catina Melton. "Ever since I was a little girl, it's something that I really look forward to. It really means a lot today. Everyone in the community gets to come out and enjoy this Labor Day Picnic and it's been going on for a long time."
A small group of longtime Salem residents comes together to provide all the food, games, and entertainment. They invite the entire community to enjoy the event each year for free.
