Lee County Correctional Officer arrested for stealing money from inmates

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested a Correctional Officer for stealing personal property of persons booked in the Lee County Detention Center.

On September 4, 2018, at approximately 10:45 a.m. 25-year-old Danielle Nichole Rodgers was arrested for theft of property.

An inmate reported on Aug. 27, 2018, to the sheriff's office that money in their possession at the time of her booking was not returned when they were released on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.

Individuals are given a credit card with the amount of funds in their possession at the time of their booking, but an investigation revealed that the card was not active.

A search of Rodgers residence revealed additional evidence linking her to the crime. This appears to be a crime of opportunity and is believed to be an isolated incident.

Danielle Rodgers has been terminated from her position at the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the case remains under investigation.

Sheriff Jay Jones says, "The Lee County Sheriff's Office strives at all times to operate in a professional manner.  We hold ourselves to a high standard in our efforts to maintain that level of performance.  When we become aware of anyone within our ranks who violates that standard, especially of public trust, we will work diligently to determine the facts and then take swift and appropriate action to address the situation."

Rodgers is being held in the Lee County Detention Facility on a $1,500 bond.  If you have any information about this case or any other case please contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office at 1.334.749.5651 or the Crime Stoppers at 1.888.522.7847.
