COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Several boxers throughout the U.S. will compete in a national boxing championship in Columbus this weekend.
The Sugar Bert Boxing Title Belt National Qualifier takes place Sept. 8 and Sept.9 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Columbus has been a three-time host city of the Olympic style boxing.
"Coming to stuff like this, you see all different types of fighters and you need those different types to help groom you so you can get to the next level. Even if your goal is to not become a professional, it's to help you get to the Olympics and to help you get ready for the nationals," says pro boxer Money Powell IV.
The two-day event is expected to bring more than 600 boxers and bring in thousands of dollars to the local economy.
The champs will be named Sunday.
