COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - 60-year-old Jerry Long says something must be done after a shooting in his neighborhood.

Columbus police blocked off the intersection of Rigdon Road and 10th Street after this shooting turned murder investigation. Columbus police say the victim is Thalmus Jones.

Police say they found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later taken to the hospital and died as a result of his injuries. Neighbors say it's sad to see this happen and believes something should be done to heal the neighborhood.

"I don't ever want to hear that. But I'm hearing it and there's nothing I can do about it. It ain't but one thing all the people in my neighborhood that love God and trust in him can do and we got to keep asking him to intervene in that," says neighbor Jerry Long.

Police say no arrests have been made. Those in the neighborhood say there needs to be peace.

"I don't know the people personally but it's a lot of it going on. There needs to be peace. I don't know how to figure this one out. You know?" says area resident Michael Cooley.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Columbus Police Department.

The family of the victim came together in remembrance of their loved one Sunday evening. They say they're using this time to get through everything that happened.

This is a developing story. News Leader Nine will have more information as details become available.
