COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - WTVM has confirmed the identities of the three victims in Thursday's deadly hospital shooting.
Their names are: 76 year-old James David Baker -- a local deacon, Leslie Harris -- an administrative assistant, and 44 year-old Peter Wright -- a registered nurse.
Columbus Police said in a press conference Friday afternoon, Baker was allegedly shot in the head in the parking lot as the suspect 63 year-old Charles Johnston was exiting the Doctors Hospital.
Wright, the first victim, was approached by Johnston in an unoccupied room on the 5th floor of the hospital and was shot in the chest and head.
Police say Johnston headed for the elevator and Harris went looking for him. That's when Johnston allegedly shot Harris in the chest and back.
Harris's next of kin lives in Nashville. The person has not been notified of his death. We're told he had recently moved to Columbus.
A memorial service for James Baker has been scheduled to be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Fairview Baptist Church on Reese Road in Columbus.
The family of Peter Wright has told us a fund has been set up, in his name, at CB&T Bank. Memorial services are being held at the Vance-Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus. The Wright family is holding two viewings, both open to the public: Sunday, March 30th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Monday, March 31st, starting at 12:30 pm.
Doctors Hospital has set up a phone line for people concerned about family members. That number is (706) 494-4057.
Thursday, Columbus Regional Chairman and CEO Larry Sanders released a statement saying the entire hospital community is saddened at the tragic loss of three lives. He said their thoughts and prayers are with the victim's families.
