EXCLUSIVE: Mayor says racial slur allegations against police chief are false

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus mayor Teresa Tomlinson told News Leader 9's Roslyn Giles in an exclusive interview that the allegations made against police chief Ricky Boren are false.

She hired a former GBI agent to conduct an investigation after former police officer Jeff Fox accused Chief Boren of making a racial slur about Muscogee County Marshall Greg Countryman.

Fox initially said he heard the chief make a comment in a bathroom on the fourth floor of the public safety building.

After a lie detector test revealed that Fox was not telling the truth, the mayor said he started changing his story.

Fox has since resigned after 18 years of being a police officer.

Mayor Tomlinson says she's spoken to Columbus' police chief about this investigation and he's relieved to be vindicated. Chief Boren has maintained his innocence all along.
