‘It’s surreal knowing my siblings are as smart as me, or even smarter’: Glenwood triplets graduate top 3 in class
LEE COUNTY, AL. (WTVM) - “It’s been pretty surreal knowing that my siblings are just as smart as me, if not smarter. It’s been amazing,” said 18-year-old Lawson Weirich.
You don’t hear about triplets being at the top of their senior class or graduating with less than a percent of a point apart from each other on their GPA every day, but it’s a different story for the Weirich triplets.
Glenwood School Valedictorian, Lawson Weirich, knows his academic competitors very well, since birth. They’re his twin brother, salutatorian, Luke, and twin sister, Lily, who was named third in class.
Lawson is the rule follower. Luke is the risk taker of the three. Lilly was always the quiet observant one.
The Weirich triplets each have a 4.6 GPA and received half a million dollars in scholarships to college combined. They plan to be on the Plains this fall after being accepted into Auburn University to study engineering.
“We’re all going into engineering, but I really like the systems and machine part of it,” said Lawson Weirich.
“Software engineering...just anything with computers really I like,” said Lily Weirich. “We’re not too competitive, it’s pretty cool, us all being top 3.″
“I’m majoring in biomedical engineering and that’s so I can go to medical school to become a biologist,” Luke Weirich.
The triplets say they’re competitive, but not too competitive. When they need to know something, they ask each other.
“Whenever there’s something that I don’t know, I don’t have to wait until the next day, I can ask one of them a question. If one of them doesn’t know, the other one will. That’s pretty much our secret,” said Luke.
Their mother, Deidre, agrees their “secret sauce” is each other.
“What I would say is the secret sauce for the Weirich Triplets is.....is they are the secret sauce. As a mother, I came and went, went to work and came home. Their father went to work and came home. My mother, she came, she stayed with them and then would go home and go to sleep, but they always had each other. I think it’s that consistency and love they always had, even their little language as little toddlers. Because certainly, as they got older, I couldn’t answer the math question or figure out their science problems, but they always had each other. If there was a question, there was always someone to go to,” said Deidre.
Deidra says that even though raising Luke, Lawson, and Lily had its exhausting moments that she could not have done without their father and grandma, she knows their future will continue to be bright.
“They are each going to blaze amazing paths, I have no doubt,” said Deidre.
