The video also shows the chaotic scene as the crowd runs for safety.
The video was taken by 45-year-old Jeremy King, who told CNN he lives nearby and was attending the American Comeback Tour event with his wife. King said he was about 15 feet away from Kirk when the shooting happened.
Officials said Kirk was shot once in the neck and died. He was 31.
Kirk, a well-known conservative political activist, was speaking at a student-sponsored event with Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA.
As of Thursday morning, the shooter is still at large. Officials detained two people for questioning, but both were released after it was determined that they were not responsible for the shooting.
State officials believe the shooter fired from a nearby building down to where Kirk was speaking in the student courtyard. An estimated 3,000 people were at the event, which was staffed by Utah Valley University police officers and Kirk’s security detail.
Kirk was taking questions from a student about mass shootings and gun violence when he was shot.
The FBI created a digital tip line for anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect.
