Glenwood Baseball Begins New Season Chasing Fourth Straight State Title

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) -The sounds of baseball are back, and at Glenwood, they echo a standard built on championships.

The Gators enter the new season chasing a fourth straight state title, continuing a run of dominance that has defined the program in recent years. But head coach Tim Fanning says the expectations inside the clubhouse never change — no matter how many trophies sit in the case.

For Glenwood, the biggest challenge is internal.

“We’ve got to prepare to play the game, not the opponent,” Fanning said. “The more we focus on ourselves and not who we’re playing, I think it gives us a leg up.”

Glenwood returns a roster that blends senior leadership with emerging young talent — a combination players believe keeps the championship window wide open. The early focus this season has been on helping inexperienced players adjust to the speed and expectations of Gator baseball.

“Trying to get guys acclimated to pitching at this level — we have a lot of talent, they just haven’t had their opportunity yet,” Fanning said.

The Gators proved last season they could thrive in a new league, but inside the program, success is measured by growth rather than past results. Players say avoiding complacency is a daily priority.

“Complacency is the worst thing to have,” senior outfielder and pitcher Hudson Campbell said. “You don’t want to be cocky, you don’t want to be complacent — you just want to keep your eye on it every day.”

Senior pitcher Ethan Henderson echoed that mindset, emphasizing a culture built around constant improvement.

“Complacency is something we try to avoid at all costs,” Henderson said. “We always have to be hungry and ready for the next thing. We’ve really built that into practice this year — whether it’s trying something new or playing different positions, staying out of our comfort zones is a big thing.”

With another season already underway, Glenwood isn’t just defending titles — the Gators are chasing history, one pitch at a time.
