COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Salvation Army of Columbus hosted a grand opening for its Center of Hope today.

The building on 2nd Avenue in Columbus is an emergency housing shelter that will provide services to families with children to address the root causes of poverty.

By helping families overcome challenges like unemployment, unstable housing and lack of education, The Salvation Army and collaborative partners will guide families toward increased stability and self-sufficiency.

The center of hope has 17 apartments and is expected to serve about 60 families a year.
