UPDATE: 7-year-old Columbus girl dies in car crash on Macon Rd.
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A child is dead following a vehicle accident in Columbus Tuesday night.
The accident happened on Macon Road near the intersection of Forrest Road. Deputy Coroner Charles Newton confirmed seven-year-old Mariah Lewis was partially ejected from a vehicle being driven by her father and died.
According to the Muscogee County coroner, Mariah was not properly fastened in the car at the time of the crash.
“She was ejected from the vehicle after the driver had already hit one vehicle and sideswiped another one,” said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. “My understanding is the car rolled over and she was ejected.”
Mariah’s two brothers and her father survived the crash. Authorities said Mariah’s father, Marcus Lewis, was wanted for aggravated assault charges.
